MKA Appeal Success for Wind Turbine on behalf of Ash Park Energy, Dungiven

MKA Planning have successfully won a planning appeal for a wind turbine at lands off Killunaght Road, Dungiven, on the edge of  the Sperrins  AONB.

The proposal, located at the Sperrin’s Foothills, was initially refused as the Department considered it would have an adverse visual impact within a landscape character area of high sensitivity to wind turbine development.

MKA demonstrated through a Zone of Visual Influence and photomontages of the turbine within its landscape  that critical  views of the proposed turbine were short term from along the site frontage. Views from other locations are screened and filtered by existing vegetation, topography and built development ensuring the turbine would not be obtrusive in the landscape.

Objections from a local resident were considered  by the Commissioner but were not given significant weight due to his distance from the turbine and the existing planting between it and the Objector’s house which screened views of the proposed turbine.

The Commissioner also gave substantial weight to the environmental, economic and built heritage benefits of the proposed wind turbine which would help financially support the estate, the regeneration of the historic gardens and  the maintenance of  two listed buildings on it.  The proposal also provided enough green energy to meet most of the power needs of the nearby  Feeny settlement.

Issues of visual impact or cumulative visual impact of wind turbines are the most common objection to wind turbine application.

We can directly address those issues using specialised software to prepare wireframe diagrams and photomontages to help overcome visual concerns. We work with other consultants to address issues of noise, aviation safety/safeguarding, access, flora, fauna etc.

If your wind turbine is stalled or going for refusal contact Matt or one of the MKA Team at 028 71311551 to discuss your planning matter.
